I captured this video at the 2013 Flower and Garden Showcase to promote this year’s event.
One of the greatest parts about filming at the Garden Factory is the vibrant colors and textures. Since this was an early spring event I really wanted to emphasize the colorful flowers and spring decor. There’s a certain excitement in the air when spring breaks in Rochester and this event captures that mood exceptionally well.
I wanted to give a flavor of the vendors that would be at the show without spending too much time on interviews or extending the length of the video past a minute. I hope to encourage viewers to come out and meet the vendors as well as see the other incredible sights.
In his year’s video I’ll be sure to get more footage of the food demonstrations and other activities so that I don’t have to rely on as many still images. Overall the effect is fine, but I’d like to strive for something a little more consistent.
Also, I’ll extend my shooting time this year so that I can capture the sessions, get more B-roll and get some extended interviews with the vendors. Then I can spin off related videos for other purposes for the Garden Factory, other businesses, or my own promotional purposes.
Overall my editing abilities have grown immensely over the last 11 months as I’ve continuously revisited this video. My improved skills with Final Cut Pro X have created a tension that prevented me from releasing this video without that ‘one more edit’. At the same time, in the future I expect to get through short videos like this much more efficiently.
This year’s event is April 5 – 6, 2014 from 10:00am to 4:00pm both days. For more information visit The Garden Factory’s website. Hope to see you there!
